1st event of 2018 - Talk by Dr Lorraine Harbison

Thursday January 11th, 7.30 – 9.30 pm,

Drumcondra Education Centre

“Transition from Primary to Secondary Maths – do we know what they know?”

Dr Harbison is chiefly concerned with the M in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). She is associate professor in mathematics education at the Dublin City University (DCU) School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies.

Deirdre Connolly and Eoin Leonard are experienced primary school teachers with a special interest in Maths Education and they will be speaking about maths lessons in 5th and 6th class. This will be in invaluable insight for us as second level teachers to help us engage better with the mathematical knowledge of our incoming first year students every year.

There will also be a discussion on the 1st year Common Introductory Course. Please bring along any extension material which you would like to share with others.

Get an insight into Dr Harbison's work here as she speaks about her research and teaching which focuses on improving how Maths is taught in primary schools in Ireland.
